Therapeutic activities addressed receptive language skills, with a focus on following single-step commands to improve comprehension for activities of daily living. The patient demonstrated measurable progress, correctly responding to 1-step directives in 5 out of 10 presented opportunities (50% accuracy) within structured tasks. Continued intervention is warranted to achieve consistent performance across consecutive sessions. Further work targeted joint attention to promote foundational skills for language development. The patient successfully responded to bids for joint attention in approximately 8% of opportunities with moderate verbal and gestural cueing, indicating emerging progress toward the goal of achieving 20% accuracy with decreased support. Additionally, play-based intervention focused on increasing sustained engagement to create language learning opportunities. Alexander is diagnosed with a profound to severe expressive-receptive language disorder, where Alexander’s receptive language (severe) is less severe than his expressive language (profound). Alexander would greatly benefit from speech therapy services that focus on the following concepts: play skills, following routine directions, joint attention, sustained attention to tasks, imitation of gestures/actions, use of total communication for a variety of pragmatic functions, and engaging with the clinician during play. Once the office has processed the report, obtained the needed signatures, and insurance approves the report, the treating clinician will reach out to you to schedule your first session.
