Therapeutic intervention targeted the development of functional communication and social interaction skills. To enhance expressive language, the patient worked on foundational pre-linguistic skills. The patient demonstrated emerging progress in using eye contact when requesting assistance, achieving this in 5 out of 10 opportunities. Additionally, the patient imitated clinician-modeled gestures and actions during play-based tasks with 50% accuracy (5/10 opportunities). Focus was also placed on utilizing a total communication approach—including eye contact, vocalizations, and pointing—to functionally communicate wants and needs. The patient initiated communication attempts without adverse behaviors in 4 out of 10 opportunities, indicating developing skills in this area. Receptive language was addressed through object identification tasks. When presented with a field of three common play objects, the patient correctly identified the named item in approximately 1-2 of 5 trials (30% accuracy) with moderate verbal and gestural prompting. When were these developmental milestones met: Crawl, sat-up, stood up, walked, fed self, dressed self, potty trained? 5.) Sleeping or breathing issues? Does patient get 8-10 hrs of sleep? Wake up several times a night? Snoring? Sleeps with mouth open or closed? Enlarged tonsils? 6.) Education history (i.e., attends daycare, preschool, etc.)? 7.) Vision or hearing issues? 8.) 04-14-2025 07:08 PM	Asa Del Castillo	Asa (Prim) Replied: 1) Asa freyja del castillo / 09-01-2021 2) Born with hip dysplasia 3) My daughters pediatrician advised I get her tested for autism once I start speech therapy as she showed light signs 4) I can't recall her ever crawling she just kinda skipped and started walking at the 1 year mark , she was able to feed her self around the 2 year mark with a spoon/fork. She is not potty trained yet as well and can dress her self in terms of shoes/socks/pants/sweater just not shirt quiet yet 5) she does get 8-10 hours of sleep but I do have concerns of her snoring . I do notice it sometimes and maybe with mouth open a little bit. 6) has not attended any type of daycare/preschool. 7) no vision or hearing issues 8) My concern is my daughter's ability to speak in general . She knows a few words and can follow directions well by physical showing me her needs/wants . I would like to work on her speech and be shown better ways to interact and teach my daughter when we're at home to help better her communication skills .Within the year I'd love for the goal for Asa to use short sentences.

Again, as a reminder, play with Asa by putting objects on your head and saying "ashu" while they fall into your hands. After a few trials, you can try to put them on her head. This will allow Asa to engage with you while working on that joint attention. When transitioning to another activity, always remind her, "We have 4 left and then we are all done, we have 2 left and then we are all done". You can also create a visual schedule at home! Consistency is key. I will see you next week :)

Encourage the child to shift gaze between an object and the parent: For example, using a favorite toy, a parent can hold it up at eye level and excitedly say, “Wow! Look!” while pointing at it. If the child glances at both the toy and the parent, even briefly, that moment should be warmly reinforced with praise, a smile, or handing her the toy. Over time, this kind of repetition builds the foundational skill of joint attention. 2. Bubble play is another excellent way to encourage shared focus. Parents can blow a few bubbles, then pause and hold the wand while looking at the child, saying “More?” and waiting. If the child looks at the parent, vocalizes, or gestures, it’s important to immediately respond by blowing more bubbles. This teaches the child that her interaction affects what happens next. The excitement, movement, and anticipation involved in bubbles make it a naturally rewarding experience for joint engagement. 3. Snack routines are also helpful. Placing a few favorite snacks in a clear container and offering one piece at a time encourages the child to look at the parent and the snack alternately. The parent can show the snack, say “Yummy!” and wait for the child to look at them before giving a piece. This teaches the child that sharing attention gets her what she wants, and helps lay the groundwork for communication. 4. Toy play that involves turns—like wind-up toys, ball ramps, or simple cause-and-effect toys—is another great opportunity. The parent can activate the toy, look at the child with a big smile, and say, “Ready, set, go!” before letting the toy move. Waiting and watching for the child’s reaction teaches her to expect and enjoy the shared moment.
