Occupational Background History: Emmanuel is a 6 year old boy who was seen on this date for a scheduled occupational therapy evaluation in order to obtain current level of function. (Parent), was present in order to serve as the primary informant throughout the evaluation. Per (parent's) report child was born at 40 week gestation. Child did not experience any complications at birth, does not have any visual or hearing deficits. Child does have history of aggression and seasonal allergies.

Child exhibits limited attention evident by fleeing/escaping non-preferred activities, and need for constant redirection.

Assessment of Goals/Response to Treatment: Patient presented to the session alert, cooperative, and demonstrated good readiness to engage in therapeutic activities. To address goals for sustained attention and activity initiation, the patient was engaged in a structured task requiring sequencing and problem-solving. He responded positively to the implementation of "first/then" visual cues to facilitate transitions between non-preferred and preferred tasks. The patient successfully attended to and completed the cued directive in 3 out of 5 opportunities (60%) with only minimal verbal prompts required for one instance. This performance indicates significant progress, as he has exceeded the long-term goal criterion of 50% accuracy and demonstrates improved cognitive integration for task completion. Concurrently, intervention targeted the development of coping skills and self-regulation. During a challenging moment within the activity, the patient began to exhibit signs of frustration; however, with one minimal verbal prompt, he was able to successfully utilize a learned deep breathing strategy to de-escalate, thereby preventing a tantrum. He was able to verbally express his frustration in a socially appropriate manner on 2 of 3 occasions when challenged, reflecting a 66% accuracy for this session. This is a marked improvement from his baseline of prolonged tantrums and demonstrates functional gains toward the goal of redirecting negative feelings. The patient's ability to complete all assigned tasks reflects positive progress in psychosocial and cognitive integration skills.

To help avoid further delay, we want to offer you early access to therapy via telehealth services.
This option will get your child's therapy started now, while you wait for in-person therapy. Our telehealth sessions are conducted securely via Zoom, allowing your child to receive high-quality, personalized OT from the comfort of your home.
Once your child's in-person spot becomes available, you will have the option to come into the clinic for therapy or, if you prefer, continue with telehealth if your child is a good candidate.
Please let us know if you are interested in starting early or just waiting in line for in-clinic therapy.
