Assessment of Goals/Response to Treatment: Wesley participated in a skilled occupational therapy session that targeted motor, psychosocial, and cognitive integration skills through structured sensorimotor play and the use of positive reinforcement strategies. Progress was observed in self-regulation, as Wesley responded to a “first/then” visual schedule in 2 out of 4 opportunities with moderate verbal and physical support to transition between preferred and non-preferred activities. This reflects an emerging ability to follow cues and engage in directed tasks. However, difficulty with activity termination remains a significant challenge. When prompted to clean up, Wesley exhibited a 5-minute episode of crying and task refusal, requiring moderate support to de-escalate and re-engage in the session. In the area of social interaction, Wesley participated in reciprocal play with the therapist for intervals of up to 30 seconds on two occasions, given moderate verbal cues to sustain engagement. This demonstrates improvement from his baseline, where maximum support was needed to maintain interaction for more than brief moments. Fine motor and bilateral coordination skills were addressed through a bead-stringing activity. Wesley successfully threaded three large beads, using his non-dominant hand to stabilize the string while manipulating the beads with his dominant hand. He required moderate hand-over-hand assistance to orient the beads and initiate placement, indicating progress from previously requiring maximum assistance. Overall, Wesley is demonstrating measurable improvements in social engagement and bilateral coordination. Continued skilled occupational therapy services remain necessary to further develop coping strategies, self-regulation, and the ability to initiate and appropriately terminate tasks to support functional participation in daily activities.

We have thermometers in our front lobbies and will be checking for high temperatures as we begin the traditional time of year for an increase in flu, colds, and COVID. Any child or parent with a temperature of 100 degrees and above will be asked to reschedule for another day & time. If you or your child or someone in your home has COVID, we continue to ask that you stay home and quarantine to stop the spread. Due to a recent change in Tricare’s process, all patients are now required to be seen by their Primary Care Provider (PCP/PCM) and have an updated referral submitted to Tricare before we can request authorization for therapy. Please note: -The referral end date provided by your PCP/PCM will determine the authorization period for therapy services. -If possible, we recommend requesting a referral period of up to one year, as this will help reduce the number of required follow-up visits. -If you are unsure whether a current referral is on file, please contact your PCP/PCM or Tricare Referral Management directly. This change began earlier this month. While we are actively reviewing all existing referrals, we kindly ask for your assistance in scheduling an appointment with your PCP/PCM and ensuring an updated referral is submitted to help avoid any delays in therapy services. If you are able to view your referral end date, please be aware that your child will need to be seen again before that date to continue services. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this transition. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. Thank you for your time and support.
