Occupational Background History: Marc is a 8 year old boy who was seen on this date for a scheduled occupational therapy evaluation in order to obtain current level of function. Grandmother, was present in order to serve as the primary informant throughout the evaluation. Per grandmother's report child was born full term. Child did not experience any complications at birth, does not have any visual or hearing deficits. Per grandmother's report Marc experienced some family trauma leading to emotional regulation deficits. Grandmother reports Marc gets very upset, becomes aggressive and has difficulty with emotional regulation skills. During the evaluation Marc also demonstrates very limited sustained attention, requiring multiple redirection attempts and low performance due to not understanding or recalling directions and steps requested.

Child also demonstrates fine motor and grasp delays in BUE evident by premature grasp patterns, spillage and difficulty with manual dexterity tasks.

Assessment of Goals/Response to Treatment: Marc presented to session A&O and cooperative, demo’ing excellent motivation and engagement throughout. Skilled OT services were provided to address psychosocial skills, attention, cognitive integration, and VMI through structured and graded therapeutic activities. Marc demo'ed notable progress in psychosocial functioning, as evidenced by initiating 2/2 non-preferred tasks c <5 VC, indicating improved task initiation and transitions between activities. Additionally, he demo’ed improved sustained attention, participating in 3/3 structured tasks for >3 min each c no redirection, meeting attention-related goal and reflecting increased task tolerance. VMI and problem-solving were addressed via puzzle activity, during which Marc utilized B integration and crossed midline to manipulate pieces, demo'ing improved coordination and motor planning. Cognitive skills were further targeted through tablet-based memory tasks, where Marc completed 2 games c >50% accuracy in 1/2 trials, indicating emerging visual processing and recall skills. Use of skilled strategies, including work-reward sequence and visual timers, effectively supported engagement and task completion. Overall, Marc is demo'ing measurable progress in attention, task initiation, and VMI; however, continued deficits in higher-level cognitive processing, consistency c accuracy, and I use of strategies persist, and he continues to benefit from skilled OT services to further develop executive functioning and cognitive integration skills.

If you or your child or someone in your home has COVID, we continue to ask that you stay home and quarantine to stop the spread. The CDC urges people sick with symptoms of respiratory viruses to stay home until their fever has disappeared for at least 24 hours without relying on fever-lowering medications.

Please do not come to therapy if you or your child are experiencing the following symptoms: fever, body aches, chills, vomiting, diarrhea, headache. Your treating therapist would be happy to reschedule your visit for you.

I just wanted to send out a few reminders as we near the holidays. The clinic will still be open Monday (December 22) and Tuesday (December 23) of next week. If you have regular appointments on those days or have coordinated make-up visits with me, I will still be here and see those visits.

The clinic will then be closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2025 and will reopen on Monday, January 5. During this time, all clinic operations will be closed, meaning you will not receive messages from me or reminders from the front office. I will also be taking this time to be with family, so my responses may be slower than usual.

Lastly, I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for such a smooth and welcoming first few months at New Beginnings. I am truly grateful for each of you and look forward every day to working with your children and being part of their growth.

I just wanted to provide some additional information regarding my move to the different building starting next week. The address is 1510 N Zaragoza Rd, Suite B1, El Paso, TX 79936. It is very close to the current building, and I’m happy to send a photo showing its location in relation to where we are now if that would be helpful, just let me know!

I’ve already checked out the space, and it has a lot of great materials and activities that I’ll be able to use during our sessions. My first official day at the new location will be February 2nd, so please still come to the building you have been until the end of the week. I’ll be sending reminders as that date gets closer to help avoid any confusion.
