Speech Assessment Summary: Daniel is a 3 year, 7 month old male who was re-evaluated to determine continued eligibility of speech and language services. Daniel was brought by his mother, however, mother was not present during testing. Mother and clinician discussed previous mentioned concerns regarding signs and symptoms of autism. However, mother stated that after speaking to her pediatrician she would like to make further observations and monitor symptoms before seeking an evaluation from a specialist. The Preschool Language Scales - Fifth Edition (PLS-5) was used to assess Daniel's receptive and expressive language abilities. The evaluation administered in English, as it has been observed to his dominant language and his main language of exposure. The following are Daniel's standard scores on the PLS-5: Auditory Comprehension standard score 55 (raw score: 23, percentile: 1, age equivalent: 1 year 5 months) - PROFOUND Expressive Communication standard score 74 (raw score: 30, percentile: 4, age equivalent: 2 year 3 months) - MODERATE Total Language Score 62 (raw score: 53, percentile: 4, age equivalent: 1 year 11 months) - SEVERE Based on Daniel's standard scores on the PLS-5 and clinical observations, Daniel presents with a SEVERE mixed expressive/receptive language delay. Progress has significantly been noted as he previously presented with a profound expressive/receptive language delay. Daniel would continue to benefit from speech and language therapy targeting the following deficits: following commands with gestural cues, understanding verbs in context, engaging in pretend/symbolic play, understanding object use, understanding spatial concepts. As always, we at New Beginnings strive to keep our patients, parents, therapists, and staff safe and healthy. We have thermometers in our front lobbies and will be checking for high temperatures as we begin the traditional time of year for an increase in flu, colds, and COVID. Any child or parent with a temperature of 100 degrees and above will be asked to reschedule for another day & time. If you or your child or someone in your home has COVID, we continue to ask that you stay home and quarantine to stop the spread. The CDC urges people sick with symptoms of respiratory viruses to stay home until their fever has disappeared for at least 24 hours without relying on fever-lowering medications. Please do not come to therapy if you or your child are experiencing the following symptoms: fever, body aches, chills, vomiting, diarrhea, headache.
