02-14-2026	Lailani Chehedeh	On Saturday January 31st, mother was provided with autism characteristics checklists following clinical observations noted during speech therapy sessions with Dylan. She was reminded that the speech therapist is not a medical doctor and cannot provide a medical diagnosis; only a qualified physician or licensed psychologist can formally diagnose autism. The checklists were shared to outline characteristics observed in therapy and to support informed discussion with medical providers. Mother was provided with a paper handout detailing characteristics of autism, as well as informational parent resources explaining what autism is and how it may present across settings. During the discussion, mother shared that she suspects Dylan may have autism and reported that she is currently in the process of pursuing a medical evaluation to obtain a formal diagnosis. Mother also reported that Dylan was previously evaluated through the school system; however, he did not qualify for special education services under the educational classification of autism at that time. Additionally, mother expressed concerns regarding family dynamics, noting that Dylan’s father is experiencing difficulty accepting the possibility of an autism diagnosis and has limited understanding of autism. Mother was encouraged to consider family or individual counseling services, as navigating diagnostic processes and differing perspectives within the family can be emotionally challenging. Mother verbalized understanding of the information provided and was encouraged to reach out with any further questions or updates regarding the medical evaluation process.
